Non-essential or Deal Breaker?
Angela and I had a good conversation/interview today with one of the elders of our church and his wife. We were nervous at first since we knew from the start we didn’t see eye to eye on many things. But the conversation went fine until I had to emphasize that I understood “my nomination” to be “our nomination” which also meant my wife would be welcome at the table with the other deacons, and thus with the other elders, but neither of us would be able to vote. There was stunned silence and suddenly all the issues and questions from two years ago came flooding back. This time, it might be a deal breaker. Should it be, dear and honest reader? Maybe this is what Paul was trying to warn against:

But then…maybe more deacons would volunteer to work…
